Adding electrical components to a mechanical project transforms it into a mechatronics-project. In my definition, ‘electrical components’ are not just wiring, bulbs, contacts and motors. That’s because I understand the ‘tronic’ part as being of a higher complexity; digital circuitry, microprocessors, stepper motors and nontrivial sensors. You know, a notch up from eg. car electrics. Home automation would fall into this category, and I’ve yet to make a section on this subject, as I’ve already got a lot of consumer-grade stuff installed: IKEA Trådfri lighting, Google Nest speakers and screens and even a 433MHZ wireless Domoticz setup running on my NAS along with surveillance camera and cellphone reporting.
